Our first stop was two nights at Rwakobo Rock Lodge, Lake Mburo National Park with a third night there later in our safari. Jenny and I have been here and to Mihingo Lodge on several occasions now and have some favorite tracks. The park is not big but we drive the tracks so slowly that we have never been to some sections.

It was amazing to see the change in the park since our last visit only six weeks earlier. At that time we battled rain and mud and the grass was lush and green. This time it is dry and dusty. We had a boat trip on the lake on the first afternoon and spent another full day driving the tracks. The rest of the time was spent swimming or birding around the lodge. Lots of new birds and mammals for Rob and Lou.

On our last night Rob found a male Pennant-winged Nightjar circling over the path between the lodge dining room and the rooms. No photo opportunities but a spectacular bird (see
this photo for a photo close to our experience).
